MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Solar powered energy technology is coming to the city of Plymouth, and it's all thanks to a trustworthy great-grandmother who's passionate about her family's future.
Alice Allison has an powerful dryer, electric washer, electric diversity, an electric refrigerator, but soon she will have no electric bill.
"We're taking sun's rays, and converting it's into alternating current and feeding this electricity into Alice's home, " said Brian Allen of All Your energy Solar.
Being installed on the roof with her home are 14 sections.
"The system that we are are actually here today is going to produce adequate enough electricity during daylight hours to whelm Alice's entire home, anything that your darling uses this system will produce this electricity, " Allen said.
Alice's choice of technology may even make the woman money.
"It's even going to are blessed with excess energy left over, and that an excessive amount energy just goes right back in order to the grid, past her m and Xcel Energy will source that excess energy at the same process that they sell energy, so so simple an even offset, " Allen talked.
But monetary incentives are not Alice's motivation.
"I feel it's the fact to do for my grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, " Alice said. "It's the coming thing, it's the thing for the environment, and I could do it. "
Getting the panels installed has been a six-month process of homeowner association approvals, licenses, and, of course , waiting good ambiance.
Yet, Alice was determined to experience the installation of each solar module.
"I skipped working out — I exercise at the Y, four or five mornings in 1 week — and this was much more important and vital, " Alice said.
The cost of each installation is $16, 000, yet again rebates and tax credits cover about half of that.
Alice says a birthday gift to herself.
The person turns 90 next month, and the woman system will be up and running by then.
